The Seton Hays Society
The Seton Hays Society was established in 2010 as a social and educational group where people who share an interest in Seton Medical Center Hays could connect with each other and learn about projects at the facility while providing philanthropic support to further Seton’s mission in Hays County. Individuals donate $250 annually to participate in the Society, which hosts quarterly meetings.
Contributions are then pooled and twice a year – in May and November -- Seton Hays Society participants meet to collectively decide which micro site-based grants within SMCH to fund. Any department at the medical center that is interested in participating is asked to fill out an application. A maximum of four proposals will be considered at each May and November SHS meeting. Applicants will have an opportunity to briefly present their proposals to the SHS partners. Awards will then go to those grant recipients as selected by the SHS.
On May 26th, 2011, representatives of the SHS heard presentations from three SMCH departments. Although the three proposals added up to more money than was available to grant, two SHS participants agreed to make up the difference. The result: Furniture for a new tranquility room on the 1st floor, a patient hospitality cart for the 3rd and 4th floors and new equipment for outpatient rehabilitation services were all approved.
Would you like to have an opportunity to be part of the Society and help support SMCH departmental efforts? Currently, the SHS has about 50 partners but our goal is to reach 100 before the end of the year. Once we are successful in reaching that number, it will mean an estimated $20,000 available annually for site-based grants.
